Terms & Conditions

Terms for the Burtz website, mobile application and marketplace. Updated 25 October 2026.

1. Who we are

Burtz is operated by BURTZ LTD, registered in England and Wales, company number 17340350. Our registered office and contact details are below.

2. Scope and launch status

The website currently collects interest and enquiries. It does not create accounts, listings, orders or payments. Application and marketplace provisions apply only when those services become available and their terms are presented for acceptance.

3. Requests and eligibility

Provide accurate information and act with the legal capacity or authorisation required for your request. Waitlist registration is free and creates no purchase obligation, partnership agreement or guarantee of launch, availability or acceptance.

4. Marketplace roles

Each offer must identify its seller or lender and whether they act as a trader or private individual. Transactions are between the identified parties; Burtz is a party only where expressly stated. Traders remain responsible for their consumer-law obligations.

5. Books and content

Offer only books you are entitled to supply and describe their condition accurately. Do not post unlawful content, infringe copyright, commit fraud or harass others. You retain your content rights and permit Burtz to display it only as needed to provide the service.

6. Prices and subscriptions

Before confirmation, the service must display the full price, fees, delivery costs and applicable payment terms. Any subscription must explain its duration, renewal and cancellation. Joining a waitlist does not authorise a charge or recurring payment.

7. Rentals and swaps

Before agreeing, participants must confirm the book, condition, handover, rental period, return arrangements and any charges or deposit. Loss, damage and late-return obligations must be clear, proportionate and consistent with applicable law.

8. Consumer rights

Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected, including remedies for faulty or misdescribed goods and applicable distance-selling withdrawal rights, generally 14 days for consumer purchases from traders, subject to legal exceptions. Private sales have different protections; trader status must not be concealed.

9. Access and responsibility

We must exercise reasonable care and skill. We may restrict unlawful or abusive activity, giving reasons and an opportunity to request review unless law or urgent security needs prevent this. Nothing excludes liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or liability that law prohibits excluding.

10. Privacy and updates

Our Privacy Policy explains personal-data use. City email updates require a separate, optional opt-in. You may withdraw it through an unsubscribe link in an email or by contacting us; doing so does not cancel your request.

11. Changes and disputes

Material changes will be dated and communicated with reasonable notice where applicable; they do not retrospectively alter agreed transactions. Contact us about complaints or unlawful content. Nothing limits mandatory protections or your right to approach competent courts, including courts in your country where consumer law allows.
